In Germany’s companies there are significantly fewer female than male executives – despite all odds and appeals. There is even a declining trend in medium -sized companies.
Women are still clearly in the minority in management positions of German companies. In less than a third (28 percent) of 5.1 million companies, at least one woman is currently part of the group of owners, the management or the board.
The Schufa analyzed this on the occasion of the information agency, on the occasion of the World Women’s Day this Saturday (March 8th). Compared to the first evaluation four years ago, the proportion of women in the first management level of the German economy increased somewhat: in 2022 it was still 26 percent.
Fewer medium -sized companies with a woman at the top
In the medium -sized company, however, the KfW funding bank determines a declining trend in a current evaluation: Of the approximately 3.84 million medium -sized companies in Germany, just 14.3 percent were led by a boss in 2024, and more than ever since the first evaluation on this basis in 2003.
After the maximum state in 2022 (19.7 percent), the value had already decreased to 15.8 percent in 2023. “We are far away from a catch-up at the women’s quota in medium-sized management days,” says KfW director Katharina Herrmann.
Also in other management positions of rare women
According to the KfW analysis, fewer women were not only found at chief positions in the middle class. In the case of team, department and area management, a declining development is also evident: The proportion of female managers in all management positions in medium-sized companies in 2024 decreased by 4.9 percentage points to 21 percent in 2024.
Industry with the highest proportion of women
Schufa accounts for most companies with at least one woman at the first management level in the veterinary system (68.5 percent), the proportion is also above average in social and health professions (60.2 percent each), for clothing manufacturers (58.3 percent) as well as in education and lessons (52.2 percent).
Women are most rarely found in management positions in professions that are considered typical men’s professions: in forestry (6.6 percent) and on construction (6.7 percent).
