Glyphosate is a stimulus: While environmentalists warn of episodes for biodiversity, many farmers keep large pieces on such pesticides. Bayer has to overcome resistance.
In his business with the controversial weed destroyer Glyphosate, the Agrarchemie Group Bayer has to accept a small setback. As announced by the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL), the Bayer plant protection agent Roundup Future in Germany may not be used or sold for the time being. This goes back to a contradiction by German Environmental Aid (DUH), which has a suspensive effect. In the next step, Bayer is listened to – after that, the sale could still be possible.
Bayer said that they were working on restoring admission. “We are confident to achieve this quickly and thus ensure that farmers in Germany have access to this important product again – especially at the beginning of the season.” The other glyphosate -containing products from Bayer in Germany are not affected.
Environmental aid sees the topic of glyphosate very different from the Leverkusen group. “It is an important success that the newly approved glyphosate pesticide Roundup Future is no longer allowed to be sold and applied for the time being,” says Duh federal manager Jürgen Resch. Every day when the environment is preserved from this toxic total herbicide.
Bayer, on the other hand, emphasizes that the active ingredient is safe for people and the environment if it is used in accordance with the instructions for use. “Numerous regulatory authorities have confirmed this for decades,” says the company spokesman, pointing out that the EU Commission had approved Glyphosate for another ten years in 2024.
