Three years Tesla: Factory manager confident – more protest

Tesla’s new registrations are falling in Germany, criticism of company boss Musk is increasing. Nevertheless, the plant manager of Grünheide is optimistic. The factory was opened three years ago.

Despite the drop in sales in Germany, the US electric car maker Tesla is confident for the work in Grünheide. “We have continuously increased production in recent years and now supply 37 markets inside and outside of Europe directly from the Gigafactory,” said plant manager André Thierig to the German Press Agency. “Further markets will be added in the future.”

The work in Grünheide was the most modern car factory in Europe, there were more than 11,000 jobs. The Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg was officially opened on Saturday (March 22nd) three years ago.

Fewer new registrations in Germany

In Germany, sales in February fell again according to numbers from the Federal Motor Transport Office, although more electric cars came on the streets. Throughly, it points out that the Model Y – which has been manufactured in Grünheide since February – was the best -selling car in the world in 2023 and 2024. A gap in the approvals during a product change is of course.

Car expert Ferdinand Dudenhöffer does not expect a quick trend reversal: “The models exude little innovative new things and are too expensive,” he told the dpa. In addition, the criticism of Tesla boss Elon Musk is increasing. He is a consultant of US President Donald Trump. In the Bundestag election campaign he campaigned for the AfD.
