Mercedes-Benz pays 500,000 euros in severance pay

The car maker Mercedes-Benz relies on lush severance payments in the administration. Sums of over 500,000 euros are possible if long -standing employees leave the company, said familiar circles.
Because employees are protected against termination by the end of 2034, the car manufacturer must offer attractive financial incentives to implement the job cuts that is part of a comprehensive savings program. The “Handelsblatt” had previously reported.
A group spokeswoman said in Stuttgart that the conditions of the severance payment program were not expressed publicly. “Mercedes-Benz stands for his responsibility towards the employees: we are socially acceptable and fair.” The group offers attractive offers to continue their own career outside the company or to switch to another phase of life.
No operational terminations
In the car manufacturer’s intranet, employees can get a first overview of what they get when leaving. So far, the DAX company does not provide information on the number of employees who are supposed to leave the group. According to employee representatives, it is about thousands of administrative forces. The severance payment program is only aimed at employees outside of production. There are no termination -related dismissals, the company had agreed with the general works council.
According to the “Handelsblatt”, a 55-year-old team leader can expect a compensation of more than 500,000 euros in the company with a gross monthly salary of around 9,000 euros and 30 years in the company. A 45-year-old clerk who has been working for Mercedes for 20 years and receives around 7,500 euros gross per month can calculate with more than 300,000 euros.
In recent years, the car manufacturer had launched similar programs with severance payments. But the sums were a little lower. Mercedes-Benz, according to previous information, plans to save around 5 billion euros by 2027. In order to become more competitive and the company had agreed on an extensive package of measures with the general works council.
