In some regions, the first rods from Germany are on the market this weekend. But it is not much yet – and the prices should be.
In some regions, the first asparagus from Germany will be on the market this weekend. In the asparagus growing area of Beelitz in Brandenburg, asparagus sale began on Saturday with smaller quantities. “We are talking about a few hundreds of kilograms,” said the chairman of the Beelitz asparagus association, Jürgen Jakobs. For comparison: in the season there are 10,000 to 15,000 kilograms every day on his farms alone. The background is the somewhat sunken temperatures, explained Jakobs. According to Jakobs, the kilo price for the early asparagus is around 15 to 18 euros. The large -scale sale with street stands begins in early April.
The start of the season also in Lower Saxony
The first asparagus was also expected in Lower Saxony for the weekend. “The first heating parade is just around the corner, which is now coming to the weekend. The outdoor parish will probably still need 14 days,” says Thorsten Flick from the unification of the asparagus and berry growers in Haten (district of Oldenburg).
However, Flick did not yet venture a price forecast at the start of the season. High price increases are not to be expected, but it is clear that the so -called heating asparagus, which grows faster due to warm water pipes in the dams and is now being harvested, is more expensive than outdoor parish.
First poles from Rhineland-Palatinate
In Rhineland-Palatinate, the first asparagus farmers have started harvesting in the past few days. These were initially companies that worked with certain techniques for an earlier harvest, said the deputy general manager of the farmers and winegrowers’ association Rhineland-Palatinate Süd, Andreas Köhr, in Mainz. The start is almost two weeks later than last year.
But it is not yet the case that lovers could buy local asparagus anywhere, said Köhr. When they are harvested in width, depend on the temperatures and sunshine in the coming weeks.
