Decathlon moves into Galeria branches

Something is happening at Galeria. The department store has completed a partnership with a well -known sporting goods dealer.

In some branches, customers of the Galeria department store chain will also be able to shop at the sporting goods dealer Decathlon. The two trading companies have agreed to collaboration, as can be seen from a joint message.

Decathlon will therefore open the first shop in the Galeria goods store in Constance in August. By the end of 2025, others are to follow in Duisburg, Freiburg, Trier and Kassel. It could also be more. “After the first successful tests, Decathlon plans to open other branches in Galeria houses,” it says.

Galeria’s restart after bankruptcy

The sales areas of decathlon are said to be between 1,500 and 3,500 square meters. “With Decathlon we bring a leading expert for sporting goods to round off our own sports range,” said Galeria shopping manager Alexa Deters. Galeria had already announced a cooperation with the food discounter Lidl in autumn.

The department store had slipped into bankruptcy again in 2023. In the summer of 2024, the court gave the green light for the restart and the takeover by the new owners: the US investment company NRDC and a participation company of the entrepreneur Bernd Beetz. Nine Galeria branches had to close as part of the bankruptcy. There are currently 83 locations.

The French sporting goods dealer and manufacturer Decathlon has around 90 branches. In November, the company announced that it would want to open up more than 60 new shops in the coming years.
