Chancellor Olaf Scholz makes it clear that the EU will react determined to the US customs policy. Why Canada plays a central role as a partner country of the Hannover Messe.
The executive Chancellor Olaf Scholz hopes for significant signals of international cooperation from the Hannover Messe. “We know that free world trade that has created so much prosperity is at risk,” said the SPD politician on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the world’s largest industrial show. The EU has a clear point of view here: “We will continue to work for free, fair world trade,” said Scholz.
“That is why it is also clear that we, as a European Union, will react to the United States’ customs policy, clearly and determined.” An expansion of trade with countries such as Canada, this year partner country of the fair, is therefore the right answer during this time.
Around 4,000 exhibitors from more than 60 countries show their innovations on the exhibition center from Monday, including 260 from this year’s partner country Canada. Scholz will get an overview of the traditional chancellor tour in the morning. Before that, the BDI Industrial Association as well as the industry associations VDMA (machine and plant engineering) and ZVEI (electrical and digital industry) want to submit their assessments of the current situation and for further development in 2025.
Large room again takes up artificial intelligence on the industrial show. The focus is also hydrogen, climate -friendly production and industrial transformation. Visitors from 120 countries are expected. A year ago, 130,000 visitors came to the fair.
