Donald Trump’s government always causes outrage abroad. Now also increasingly with an advance against programs for diversity in European companies.
According to France, Spain also denounces an attempted influence from the United States for the stop of the diversity programs of European companies. According to media reports from companies, the government of US President Donald Trump calls for companies not to pursue an equality and diversity policy so that they can work with the United States. This is “a blatant violation of the legislation applicable in our country,” said the Ministry of Labor in Madrid at the request of the German Press Agency dpa.
The Ministry led by Yolanda Díaz indicates in his statement that Spanish companies must strictly comply with the regulations for equality and protecting diversity. One would not allow a company to circumvent the applicable legal framework in order to operate business in and with the USA, it said.
France already spoke of an “unacceptable interference”
Previously, the Ministry of Foreign Trade in Paris had already rejected “a interference of the United States in the inclusion policy of French companies as well as the threat of unjustified tariffs” as “unacceptable”. In January, Trump had prompted, among other things, to stop programs for “discriminatory and illegal preference” in federal authorities.
So far, there has been no clear statement by the US government on this advance against diversity in European companies. According to various media reports, the letter from the US messages – which was published by the French newspaper “Le Figaro” – went to companies in France, Spain, Belgium and other EU countries. So far, it has not yet been known which companies are.
The Federal Ministry of Economics in Berlin said that corresponding letters to German companies were not known to the Ministry.
