As a precaution, the British Prime Minister and Italy’s head of government manifest themselves as Donald Trump’s punitive tariffs. Great Britain wants to “pragmatically” proceed.
Shortly before Donald Trump’s expected announcement of global punitive tariffs, the British Prime Minister Keir Warmer warns of a trade war. Great Britain is prepared for all eventualities, said Straßer in the parliament. A trade war is “in no interest, and the country deserves a calm, pragmatic approach that we will also follow”. Any reactions to Trump’s tariffs “would always be guided by our national interest,” said Strandmer.
Italy’s right -wing Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also warned of a trade war. “We have to work in every conceivable way to prevent a trade war that would neither use the United States nor Europe.” Of course, this does not rule out “that, if necessary, we also defend ourselves”.
Meloni expressed particularly concerns about the effects on agricultural products from Italy when it was awarded a gastro price. Italy’s head of state Sergio Mattarella described the US tariffs as serious mistakes. Europe must give a uniform answer to this, “calm and determined”.
The rules that Trump wants to announce in a speech in the Rosengarten of the White House (10 p.m. German time) are likely to be the most aggressive and serious customs measure of the US president. The Republican advertised the day of the announcement in advance as a “day of liberation”.
