Beer tastes good for many people even without alcohol. The non -alcoholic varieties are becoming increasingly important for the German brewers.

Alcohol -free beers are becoming increasingly successful in Germany. Last year, the domestic breweries produced around 700 million liters and thus more than twice as much as 20 years earlier, as the German Brewer Association reported. The occasion is the “Day of German Bier” on April 23.

In the trade, the non -alcoholic, with more than 800 brands nationwide, already makes up around 9 percent of the offer. It is therefore behind the market leader Pils (48 percent) and the very successful light beer (11 percent) in third place in the favor of buyers.

The top association of the brewing industry expects the category to continue to grow and that every tenth beer in Germany will be alcohol -free. “The innovative strength of the breweries plays a crucial role in this growth,” says Brauer-Bund President Christian Weber. With new brewing technology, the taste and quality of the non -alcoholic beers would have improved enormously over the years because alcohol is very gently withdrawn.

The non -alcoholic varieties are an important hope for the brewing industry because consumption has declined conventional beer in Germany for many years. Alcoholic beer fits less into a sporty and health -conscious lifestyle.

Nevertheless, the total sales of the alcoholic beers with 8.3 billion liters last year for the breweries was still significantly larger than with the alcohol -free varieties. In Germany, 6.8 billion liters of beer were sold with alcohol. That was the lowest level since the beer tax in 1993.
