The Chainsmokers are back: That’s why their break was so ‘important’

After a two-year break, The Chainsmokers are back with a new album. In an interview, they reveal the reasons for their time off.

Whether “Paris”, “Something Just Like This” (ft. Coldplay) or “Closer” (ft. Halsey): For years, The Chainsmokers released one hit after the other. Alex Pall (36) and Drew Taggart (32) produced their three albums “Memories… Do Not Open” (2017), “Sick Boy” (2018) and “World War Joy” (2019) in a very short time, while they “On average 180 shows per year”, the duo recalls in a double interview with the news agency spot on news. The two musicians finally allowed themselves a break that lasted two years. Putting your feet up was not on the agenda during this time – on the contrary.

“We are getting older”

The Chainsmokers are back on May 13th with their fourth album. With “So Far So Good”, Pall and Taggart want to celebrate an energetic comeback with “a lot of optimism”. “It’s about making the best of every situation. After all, we too have had many ups and downs in our long career,” explains Taggart in an interview. Since they were “creatively exhausted”, they wanted to rediscover their sound in the two years and also learned “a lot” about themselves.

“It was important for us to take this break to be inspired and to make music. That’s the biggest thing for us,” says Pall. But the time was also “crazy”. “We also just realized that we’re getting older. We just can’t drink as much as we used to,” Pall jokes.

Appearances planned in Germany – schnitzel included

As Taggart and Pall have been working together for years, they have learned “who can do which things better than the other”. “I think we have a lot of mutual respect for each other. […] We’re really happy and we have good communication – that’s what matters,” enthuses Taggart.

Several “surprises” are planned for their new album “So Far So Good”. At the end of the year, The Chainsmokers are coming to Germany again, Pall assures. Above all, the musician appreciates the German food and is looking forward to “Schnitzel and potato salad”: “You have really good food.”
