Corona: RKI reports 404 cases – new infections continue to decline

The number of new corona infections continues to decline. The RKI reports 404 cases on Tuesday morning, a week ago there were 455. The nationwide seven-day incidence drops to 5.4.

Within one day, the health authorities in Germany reported 404 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). That comes from figures from Tuesday morning, which reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 4:24 a.m. For comparison: a week ago the value was 455 infections. The RKI gave the seven-day incidence nationwide as 5.4 (previous day: 5.6; previous week: 8.0).

According to the information, 57 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 77 deaths. The RKI has counted 3,727,333 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.

Seven-day R-value drops to 0.79

The RKI stated the number of people recovered at around 3,622,600. The number of people who died with or with a proven Sars-CoV-2 infection rose to 90,819.

According to the RKI, the seven-day R-value on Monday afternoon was 0.79 (previous day: 0.82). This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 79 other people. The R-value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection process subsides; if it is consistently higher, the number of cases increases.
