Gellinek has been reporting for ZDF for 30 years. Now she moderated the “heute-journal” for the first time. First and foremost, however, she will hold a different position in the future.
On Thursday evening, Anne Gellinek completed her first moderation on the ZDF “heute-journal” very routinely. “Good evening. Gas prices are rising rapidly. Apparently, politicians are also afraid of citizens who can no longer pay their bills,” were the journalist’s first words of welcome. 2.43 million viewers (10.4 percent) tuned in to the show.
The 60-year-old was dressed in a light blue blazer, white top and dark trousers. Topics covered in the news program included concerns about the nuclear reactor in Zaporizhia, Ukraine, forest fires in Europe, long-Covid symptoms among young women and the anniversary of the Folkwang Museum in Essen.
Looking at her co-host Gundula Gause, who was dressed in bright red, Gellinek said in parting: “We’ll both be back tomorrow. Have a nice evening and bye.” Gellinek will moderate the news program more often in the future. However, she is first and foremost the new ZDF editor-in-chief.
Gellinek will succeed Bettina Schausten on October 1st. Schausten will then become editor-in-chief and succeed Peter Frey, who is retiring. Gellinek has been head of the ZDF studio in Brussels since 2015. She has been reporting for the station for 30 years. On Monday (August 22) at 9:45 p.m., the “heute-journal” week begins again with moderator Marietta Slomka. The following week, Christian Sievers moderated again.
