“I am a recovering alcoholic, and for you, I know there are people struggling in this time of cancellation, hate and disengagement, kids being bullied,” Hopkins said. “I say to this: Be kind to yourself. Be nice. Stay out of the loop of toxicity with people if they offend you. Live your life. be proud of your life”.

He went on to explain that 47 years ago he was in a “hopeless, hopeless situation” and probably didn’t have long to live, until he was lucky enough to admit one day that something was wrong with him.
“But I didn’t realize it was a type of mental, physical, emotional condition called alcoholism or addiction,” he continued. “I am not a drug expert. I am not an expert in anything. I don’t know anything except that I’ve found a life where I’m not intimidated by anyone.”
Hopkins gave a specific message to youth who are being looked down upon by others: “Don’t listen to them.” He also encouraged anyone struggling with addiction, or any problem for that matter, to talk to someone they respect, whether it’s a counselor or, for those in need, a 12-step program.
“There are 12-step programs all over the world,” said the “The Father” actor. “Every city, every small town, every community, 12-step programs that can help you identify who you are. It costs nothing, but it will give you a whole new life.”
He concluded by saying that he is not a “do-gooder” and that he is a “sinner” like everyone else, but being sober helped him have the life he has today.
“So wherever you are, get help. Do not be ashamed. Be proud of yourself, whatever you do, don’t let anyone put you down.”Hopkins said. “Celebrated as I celebrate myself, even though I don’t know anything.”
