Almost three years ago, Lisa Marie Presley suffered the last major stroke of fate in her life. At just 27 years old, their son Benjamin committed suicide at the family home in California. Presley’s life was one of loss. She was only nine years old when she witnessed her father Elvis Presley collapse and die. “My dad is dead,” she is said to have said at the time. By her teenage years, Presley was already using so many drugs that her family sought help from the sect of Scientology. Painkillers, opioids and cocaine – Presley fell into a vicious cycle. In 2019, she explained in a foreword to a book about the opioid crisis in the US: “You may be reading this and wondering how, after losing people close to me, I was able to take opioids too. It only took a short-term prescription of opioids in the hospital so I felt the need to keep taking them.”

However, details of her drug use only came to light after her public divorce from Michael Lockwood. In a 2017 affidavit, she admitted to not only being addicted to opioids, but also to cocaine, painkillers and alcohol. In several clinics she tried again and again to get clean.

In 1988 she married Danny Keough, with whom she had children Riley and Benjamin. The marriage lasted six years. From 1994 to 1996, Presley was Michael Jackson’s wife. As a couple, the two produced tons of headlines – the King of Pop and the daughter of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, the story couldn’t have been more exciting. But this marriage was also doomed to fail. In a 2003 interview with Rolling Stone, Presley admitted he was “obsessed” with the idea of ​​rescuing Jackson. “All I got from it was a shitstorm, and I got through it,” she revealed.

Four failed marriages

Marriage to Jackson was followed by a brief marriage to actor Nicolas Cage. The two were married for just 107 days.
