US reality star and model Paris Hilton (42) says she had an abortion in her early twenties. In an interview with the magazine “Glamour”, the heiress described why she decided to have an abortion: “I was a child and not ready for it.” In her own words, Hilton did not want to talk about the abortion for a long time because the decision triggered a lot of shame in her.
But now she wants to use her voice for political engagement: “It’s all about politics, but it’s about a woman’s body… Why should there be a law based on that? It’s your body, your decision – I really believe in that.” Abortion rights are a hot topic in the US. For decades, abortions were allowed at least until the fetus was viable, about 24 weeks. However, the Supreme Court overturned this decision last year, paving the way for stricter abortion laws – even outright bans.
