Corona pandemic, inflation and a lack of skilled workers – all of this has brought bankruptcy to the Berlin celebrity hairdresser Shan Rahimkhan. The future of his salon on Gendarmenmarkt is uncertain.
The Berlin celebrity hairdresser Shan Rahimkhan has filed for bankruptcy. This was submitted to the Charlottenburg District Court on February 20, Rahimkhan told the German Press Agency on Monday. The “Bild” newspaper had previously reported.
The 50-year-old cited the consequences of the corona pandemic with the ongoing shortage of workers and skilled workers, the increased costs due to inflation and a “noticeable reluctance to consume” as reasons. In addition, a permanent construction site on the Gendarmenmarkt burdens one of his two Berlin salons.
In November last year, Rahimkhan opened a new salon in the Berlin luxury department store KaDeWe. Rahimkhan announced that this salon will continue after the bankruptcy proceedings. Whether the Salon am Gendarmenmarkt will remain in its current form will be checked as part of the procedure with a commercial law firm.
However, there will be no layoffs, Rahimkhan announced. “We see the crisis as an opportunity for the future of the company. Concentrating on our core competence of beauty is now our top priority,” said Rahimkhan. He is considered one of the most famous hairdressers in Berlin.
