“To be honest, those reviews took me by surprise”, Loveness said, “I was at a pretty low point… Those weren’t great reviews, and I was like, ‘What…?'”. He added: “I’m very proud of what I wrote for Jonathan [Majors] and Michelle Pfeiffer (Janet Pym). I thought it was a good thing, you know? So he was despondent and really sad about it.”
Shortly after the first reviews were published, Loveness decided to attend a public screening to see how audiences reacted to the film in real time. As Loveness says to The Daily Beastthe audience apparently enjoyed the film, with most viewers laughing at the jokes he had written.
“I’m like, ‘Damn! No, [las reseñas] they are wrong! I’m right! MODOK is great!’” she said of his initial reaction to the film’s reception from fans. “I’m pretty happy with it overall, and I think I learned to take a hit this week. And now that I’ve learned that it’s not so bad, I can keep doing things.”.
