Model: Cara Delevingne opens up about withdrawal: “I wasn’t feeling well”

Confused and disheveled at the airport: paparazzi photos would have prompted the model to go to a rehab clinic. In retrospect, she is grateful for this “reality check”.

Model and actress Cara Delevingne (30, “Carnival Row”) admitted to a rehab clinic last year. In a “Vogue” interview, the Briton speaks openly about her addiction: “I realized that twelve-step therapy is the best and that it’s about not being ashamed of it.”

The trigger for her search for help, she says, were paparazzi photos after the Burning Man festival in the US state of Nevada, which show her visibly confused and disheveled at a Los Angeles airport.

Delevigne: “Sometimes you need a reality check”

“I wasn’t doing well,” says Delevingne. Nevertheless, she looks back on it positively: “Sometimes you need a reality check, so in a way these pictures were something I can be grateful for.”

According to her own words, she made her first experiences with alcohol abuse at the age of seven. When she was ten, she was prescribed sleeping pills and diagnosed with a motor development disorder: “That was the beginning of psychological problems and unintentional self-harm.” At the age of 15 she took antidepressants.

Lots of parties and drug use followed. She explains why she’s only now able to get dry: “I’ve had similar interventions before, but I wasn’t ready. That’s the problem. If you’re not lying face down and ready to get up again, you won’t do it.”
