Despite the use of an influential agent: Volodymyr Zelenskyj will not speak at the Oscars this year either.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy (45) will probably not speak at the Oscar ceremony. The Academy has not complied with the Ukrainian President’s request to be connected to the gala on March 12th. So far, there has been no justification from those responsible for the Oscars.

The influential Hollywood agent Mike Simpson is said to have campaigned on behalf of Zelenskyj for his guest appearance at the Oscars. Among other things, Simpson represents the filmmaker Aaron Kaufman (41), who shot a documentary about the Ukrainian president together with superstar Sean Penn (62).

Sean Penn threatened a boycott last year

Volodymyr Zelenskyj was supposed to appear at the Oscars last year by popular demand. Russia’s attack on Ukraine was not that long ago. But even then the organizers of the most important film prize in the world refused.

Sean Penn in particular put pressure on the Academy in 2022. The day before the ceremony, he called for a boycott of the event. He wants to melt down the Oscars he won for “Mystic River” and “Milk” if Zelenskyj is not allowed to speak.

As is well known, the politician and former actor did not appear. And Sean Penn didn’t make good on his Oscar threat. Instead, he “borrowed” Zelenskyj one of his golden boys. In case of victory over Russia, he should return it …

Last year, other award ceremonies had joined Volodymyr Zelenskyj. He spoke at the Grammys and the Golden Globes, for example. Most recently he addressed words to the audience at the Berlinale via satellite. Sean Penn’s Selenskyi documentary “Superpower” was screened at the Berlin Film Festival.
