The Palacio de la Zarzuela hides gala dresses, skirt and jacket sets and accessories.
The now queen mother of Spain, Sofiahas a valuable collection of Haute Couture designs by the Italian couturier Valentino Garavani. Whoever was his head couturier for almost 40 years has been retired for a long time, the collection is kept in the Palacio de la Zarzuela and for some it would deserve an exhibition.
The idyll between Queen Sofía and the Italian couturier, both for official and family events, began in the 1970s and lasted until 2008, when the couturier retired, although he continued to wear his designs faithfully while he was on the throne. The amazing collection that rests in the Palacio de la Zarzuela hides gala dresses, skirt and jacket sets and accessories.
One of her first appearances dressed as Valentino Haute Couture was shortly before she became Queen, in 1973. The design was a Halter neck model in different shades of gray, bare shoulders and a large flower on the neck, with which she posed for the cover of Paris Match magazine, together with Juan Carlos.
The close relationship between Doña Sofía and Valentino did not, however, prevent the queen from also having a Spanish dressmaker, for twenty-four years, the Aragonese seamstress, based in Barcelona, Walnut Daisy.
