Cathy Hummels hands out to soccer players: “They just don’t have any connection to reality anymore”

Spoiled, lazy and not really willing to learn – Cathy Hummels’ opinion of football players is not exactly positive. In the SWR format “Good Entertainment”, the 35-year-old spoke honestly about her experiences with the professional athletes.

Cathy Hummels doesn’t mince words. The ex of BVB player Mats Hummels has been saying more and more freely what she thinks lately. Just recently, her penchant for gossip was fatal when she blasphemed in her podcast about ex-tennis pro Boris Becker –

But Hummels happily continues to blaspheme, even if their current gossip is not quite as offensive as in the case of Boris Becker. Still, one or the other professional soccer player – including Mats Hummels himself – might feel like they’ve been stepped on. The 35-year-old spoke with presenter Pierre M. Krause and comedian Torsten Sträter about professional football in the SWR format “Gute Entertainment” – and about how much time there is for education and knowledge building away from the football field.

“Mom, I’m going to be like dad. I’m going to be a soccer player and earn a lot of money”

In principle, professional soccer players lead an incredibly privileged life, Hummels knows. “I once said that to Mats: You are really privileged. You can play football and earn really good money with it,” says the “Battle of the Reality Stars” presenter in an interview. Even her son already knows that: “He recently said to me: ‘Mom, I’ll be like dad. I’ll be a soccer player and earn a lot of money. I earn a lot of money and can always sleep until the afternoon,'” says Hummels.

In principle, the moderator has nothing against a football career for her offspring, but also emphasizes the prerequisites for this. “Education is power,” says the brunette. “Ludwig may do whatever he wants, but I still expect him to do well at school,” she says.

Spoiled, lazy and out of touch with reality

Because with her ex, Hummels has already experienced what happens to footballers who only focus on football – and are also brushed on: the connection to reality is lost. When Krause asked if she could say from her experience that all footballers were stupid, the moderator was initially silent for a long time.

Then she says: “I really want to be honest. A lot of people aren’t stupid, but they’re spoiled.” As she explains, the clubs relieve them of all tasks. “And then they get lazy,” Hummels sums up and continues: “That’s a shame for many – they’re 17 or 18, earn millions and no longer have any connection to reality.” The footballers usually lack the intelligence and education to understand “that there is something else in life than football and that it is not normal to earn millions with football.”

When Krause objected that as a professional soccer player you had little time for education and books, the presenter said: “They have so much time on the side. And then they play Playstation.”
