The state decided that today at the request of Governor Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP). The background, as the country says, is the greatly reduced interest income from the non-profit “Foundation for Learning and Memorial Castle Hartheim” (Managing Director is State President Antonia Licka), which was founded in 2004 to provide financial security, and the creation of an additional job.
From 1940 to 1944, more than 30,000 people were murdered by the National Socialists in Hartheim. The state’s funds from the cultural department will therefore increase from the previous 205,000 euros annually to up to 470,000 euros. This is done to underline the importance of the memorial for the state of Upper Austria, according to the governor.
