Author of more than 80 novels, essays and monographs, he published his first novel “Une curieuse solitude” at the age of 22, which received praise from the poet Louis Aragon, and three later, in 1961, he won the Médicis prize with “Le Parc”, but he achieved fame with his novel “Mujeres” in 1983, the AFP news agency reported.
In 1984 he published the novel “Portrait du joueur”, in which, with an autobiographical approach, he told why he used a pseudonym: he was a minor when he published his first text and his family wanted him to continue with his business ventures that did not allow him to dedicate himself to his true vocation.
The author, who avoided going to the Algerian war in 1962 alleging schizophrenia, related to French intellectuals such as Eugène Ionesco, Louis Aragon, Elsa Triolet, Jacques Lacan, Jean-Luc Godard or Roland Barthes, according to the newspaper El country.
He was a communist militant in his youth, an ideology from which he later distanced himself, and published most of his works in the emblematic Gallimard publishing house. Paradise (1981), Women (1983), La Guerre du goût (1994) and Le Secret (1993), a novel about the attack on John Paul II, were some of the works she published.
Sollers was married to Julia Kristeva, a Bulgarian-born philosopher, psychoanalyst and writer, with whom he had a son. The writer was active until his last days. His most recent work, published in 2022, also in Gallimard, was titled Graal.
