The Weeknd will come to an end after his next album

The musician, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, assured that his alter ego has little life left.

Abel Tesfaye has been a powerful force in the music industry for the last decade under the identity of The Weekndbut it seems that the alter ego could be retiring very soon.

In a new interview with W Magazineactor and co-creator of “Idol” talked about his plans to release new music and delved into the behind-the-scenes details of his upcoming music drama set to premiere on HBO At the end of june.

“It’s coming to a place and a time where I’m getting ready to close the chapter on The Weeknd”he told the publication. “I will continue making music, maybe like Abel, maybe like The Weeknd. But I still want to kill The Weeknd. And I’ll do it. Eventually. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn.”

Tesfaye previously spoke about an elaborate release plan for his next musical project and hinted at the completion of a trilogy that includes “After Hours” of 2020 and “Dawn FM” from last year. Although details of those plans remain unconfirmed, the singer said that “The album I’m working on right now is probably my last hurray as The Weeknd… This is something I have to do. Like The Weeknd, I’ve said all I can say”.

On the subject of alter egos, Tesfaye spoke at length about the trials and tribulations of balancing his time as The Weeknd while also getting into character, a cult leader named Tedros, in the new series of HBO who also stars lily rose-depp.

“It was hard going from one head to the other,” he said, later explaining how the overlap played a role in his having to cancel a second concert at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles after losing his voice.

“That had never happened before,” he continued. “My theory is that I forgot to sing because I was playing Tedros, a character who can’t sing. I may be getting too deep into this, but it was terrifying. Like The Weeknd, I have never skipped a concert. I have acted with flu. I will die on that stage. But there was something very complicated on my mind at the time.”
