Capri jeans: A fashion classic is celebrating its comeback

A pant model that has disappeared from the past is making a comeback in summer: the denim-look Capri pants are the perfect holiday companion.

In the 1950s, they were the absolute must-have in every fashion-conscious woman’s wardrobe: now the Capri pants are making a comeback – with a denim look. The three-quarter-length jeans are one of the hottest trend pieces for the coming summer months. With these tips, you can present your Capri jeans in a stylish and contemporary way.

What are capri pants?

“Sex and the City” style icon Sarah Jessica Parker (58) has long been a fan of the classic pants. Because the Capri pants are particularly suitable for smaller women, as their individual cut makes the figure appear larger.

Capri pants are generally three-quarter-length, tight-fitting women’s pants with a slit hem. The length of the pants is characteristic, it always covers the knee and usually reaches the middle of the calf. The classic Capri pants (also called fisherman pants) are high-waisted pants and have no trouser pockets.

How to style Capri pants in summer 2023

Sarah Jessica Parker combines the Capri trousers with both a business blazer and a casual hooded sweatshirt. If you want to imitate the trend in summer 2023, you can use the styling template by the French designer label Jaquemus for spring and summer 2023 as a guide. At the fashion show, fashion designer Simon Porte Jacquemus showed the denim capri trousers in combination with a white cropped blouse, an XXL straw hat and a cute straw bucket bag. The model also wore pointed-toe slingback pumps with a jeans look buckle.

The look around the capri pants in combination with cute boho-hippie elements is particularly summery. The airy ruffled blouse can be worn with the three-quarter-length jeans trousers, as well as lots of eye-catching hippie-style statement jewellery. A basket bag and long loose hair complete the bohemian style. The perfect holiday look!

The history of the origin of the Capri pants

Incidentally, the German fashion designer Sonja de Lennart is considered to be the inventor of the Capri trousers. Her favorite travel destination in the 1950s was the Italian island of Capri. She therefore created her Capri Collection with a Capri skirt, Capri blouse, Capri belt, Capri hat and of course Capri pants. The latter came about when, on a walk on the beach in Italy, she cut her trouser legs three-quarters length so that the trouser legs would not get wet.
