A look at a picture from 1961 is enough to appreciate what has changed in the world of furniture: In the founding year of the Milan furniture fair, the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, around 15 gentlemen pose, most of whom look as if they are Foreign trade representatives who cut a rather conservative figure even in Italian clothes. For a very long time the Salone was a purely male world; powerful figures regulated who was allowed to be there and who was not.
