Pop star: Robbie Williams: leave art in Hamburg Hotel

The British musician left a self-made picture in a Hamburg hotel and hung it on the wall. That was in November 2022. What happened to the artwork after it left?

The musician Robbie Williams (49) wants to have his own work of art hung up in a hotel unnoticed during a visit to Hamburg and found it right there months later. “I lived in a nice hotel in Hamburg, I left something on the wall,” the Brit posted on Instagram and published a video. He drew “the simplest abstract art you can ever make” on his tablet computer, Williams describes his prank in it.

As a result, in November 2022 he had printed, framed, signed and hung the picture. The image shows gray and black intertwined lines and dots on a white background. Below it is written in English “Hotels hang up every old crap and call it art”. In November, Williams was in Hamburg for an exclusive concert at the Elbphilharmonie.

When he visited Hamburg again at the end of January 2023, the picture was still hanging on the wall, he said in a second part of the video. “It’s still there. You didn’t mention anything. I guess it went unnoticed.” Williams was in the Hanseatic city for three arena concerts at the beginning and end of February. There may be more of these world star jokes in the future. “Yeah, that’s fun. I’ll do that more often,” he announced with a grin in the video.

The hotel itself did not want to comment on Williams’ video on Tuesday. “We maintain the discretion of each of our guests, so we will not comment on that,” said a spokeswoman for The Fontenay hotel. The “Bild” newspaper had previously reported.
