It’s been a long time since Duchess Meghan appeared at a public event. On Tuesday, Prince Harry’s wife accepted an award in New York – and shone all in gold.
It had recently become quiet around Duchess Meghan. She held back from the promotional tour of her husband, Prince Harry, on the occasion of his autobiography. And also at the coronation of King Charles III. in London on May 6, she was conspicuous by her absence. But now Meghan has appeared again at a public event for the first time.
Duchess Meghan: With Harry and mother Doria in New York
On Tuesday, the American was awarded a prize at the Woman of Vision Awards in New York. By her side: both husband Prince Harry and Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland. Meghan campaigned for women’s rights before her time in the British royal family and has now been honored on the big stage. In her acceptance speech, the Duchess addressed words to all women in the hall and elsewhere in the world. “It’s never too late to start. You can be the visionary of your own life,” she said, according to media reports. She called for being kind, merciful and fair to motivate other women “who will also choose this moment to join the movement and make our vision for a just world a reality”.
She also thanked the evening’s other awardees for their work on women’s rights. Meghan Markle has been politically active since childhood. At just eleven years old, the 41-year-old campaigned for equal rights. When she saw an advertisement for a washing-up liquid, the student at the time immediately noticed the sexist tone of the advertisement.

“Women across America are fighting greasy pots and pans,” the ad said. After seeing the clip on TV, the future ‘Suits’ star wrote a letter to the company behind the laundry detergent, Procter and Gamble, and to the then First Lady, . “I don’t think it’s right when children grow up thinking that everything is their mother’s responsibility,” she said.
On Tuesday, the Duchess also recalled an award with her outfit: In New York she appeared from head to toe in gold, her golden, strapless dress is a creation of the Colombian designer Johanna Ortiz.
