Monarchy: Queen’s state funeral cost £162m

The state funeral for Queen Elizabeth II and the public laying out of her coffin cost British taxpayers around £162 million (186.7 million euros). This was announced by the Treasury in London. Almost half of the cost – £74 million – was borne by the Home Office, which was responsible for security measures.

“The Government’s priority has been that these events run smoothly and with the appropriate degree of dignity while ensuring the safety of the public at all times,” said Secretary of State John Glen in a written response to a parliamentary question.

The Queen died on September 8, 2022 at her Scottish country estate, Balmoral Castle. First in Edinburgh and then in London, hundreds of thousands of people paid their last respects to the Queen at the closed coffin.
