Cannes: Red, ruffles and more red – the trends of the red carpet

The Cannes show continues. With Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, three film legends walked the red carpet on Saturday. Scorsese’s new crime thriller Killers of the Flower Moon premiered at the film festival.

“Killers of the Flower Moon” tells the story of the indigenous people of the Osage, who became the victims of a great crime in Oklahoma in the 1920s. Members of her tribe were systematically murdered after large amounts of oil were found on their land. After the murders went uninvestigated, the FBI finally investigated. The Apple production is based on a true story and non-fiction book by journalist David Grann.

Scorsese won the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 1976 for his cult film “Taxi Driver” starring De Niro. “Killers of the Flower Moon” is out of competition this year.

Two big trends in Cannes

While among the men only Robbie Williams set a color accent with a dark blue velvet suit, the women were particularly enthusiastic in red robes.

Super model Naomi Campbell arrived in a red dress with extravagant cut-outs and a pink cape. Brazilian model Izabel Goulart chose a similar wardrobe. She also appeared in a bright red dress with cutouts in piquant places.

American actress and singer Sofia Carson also flouted the red carpet rules and arrived in a large gown in red. The same color choice was made by model Mary Leest.

Natalie Portman dazzles in floral skirt

In addition to the color red, a second trend could be observed: ruffles in all variations. Actress Selma Hayek opted for a dress with large ruffles in a dark purple. The Russian supermodel Irina Shayk relied on many small ruffles and unusual ear jewelry.

Natalie Portman also embraced the ruffle trend. The skirt of her dress was designed in the shape of a flower. In terms of color, however, she differed from her colleagues in a light beige and floated like an elf over the red carpet.
