After strands of hair, a guitar by Kurt Cobain has now been auctioned off. He had scrapped it while recording “Nevermind”.

A guitar smashed by Kurt Cobain (1967-1994) has now been auctioned off for a lot of money. an unknown buyer paid $596,900 for the instrument. The auction took place on Saturday at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York. The organizers had expected a final bid of between $60,000 and $80,000.

Kurt Cobain is said to have destroyed the guitar while working with Nirvana on the album Nevermind. It was released in 1991 and marked the band’s breakthrough. Cobain couldn’t cope with the unexpected success. The singer, who struggles with drug addiction, took his own life on April 5, 1994.

The auctioned instrument is a black Fender Stratocaster. It was reassembled from the rubble, but can no longer be played.

The three Nirvana members have immortalized themselves with their signatures on the guitar. In addition to Cobain – the one signed “Kurdt Kobain” – Dave Grohl (54) and Krist Novoselic (58) also signed.

Cobain also wrote a dedication to his friend Mark Lanegan on the guitar. The Screaming Trees singer died in 2022 at the age of 57. Cobain signed the salute “Had-down rock star.”
