Born George Raymond Stevenson on May 25, 1964 in Lisburn, Northern Ireland. His father was an Air Force pilot and his mother was Irish. Ray Stevenson grew up in Newcastle in north east England. After working as an interior designer, he devoted himself to acting studies at the age of 27.
From King Arthur to Star Wars: Ahsoka
Smaller series and film roles followed, including in “King Arthur”. His breakthrough came with the leading role of Titus Pullo in the TV series “Rome”. In 2008, Stevenson starred in the Marvel Comics adaptation Punisher: War Zone.
He recently gained notoriety through the “Thor” film series, in which he played the role of Volstagg in 2011, 2013 and 2017. Most recently, Stevenson starred in the popular series Vikings, Das Boot, and Star Wars: Ahsoka, as well as the movie RRR (2022).
