From March 21st to 24th, the Brucknerhaus in Linz will be dedicated to the 50th anniversary. In addition to an open day, there will be two concerts to celebrate: On March 23, star conductor Zubin Mehta will conduct the Vienna Philharmonic, who will play Anton Bruckner’s 7th Symphony – the same program that the Vienna Philharmonic conducted exactly 50 years ago under Herbert von Karajan opened the house. The day before, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, conducted by Markus Poschner, will play Bruckner’s first symphony in the Linz version. Before that there will be a world premiere by Rudolf Jungwirth.

The second highlight in 2024 is Anton Bruckner’s 200th birthday on September 4th. Here, the Brucknerhaus is part of the country’s official anniversary program. From September, all eleven of the master’s symphonies can be heard in their original sound, with well-known orchestras and conductors such as Philippe Herreweghe and the Orchester des Champs Elysees (September 10, Symphony No. 8) or Kent Nagano and the Concerto Köln (October 24, Symphony No. 4). For Dietmar Kerschbaum, artistic director of the Liva and the Brucknerhaus, this amounts to a “world sensation”: “For the first time, all the symphonies will be performed as they sounded in Bruckner’s day. If you want to hear that, you have to come to Linz.”

Overall, the 2023/24 season has the motto “dance, rhythm, momentum, ecstasy” – many concerts will deal with these topics in different ways, for example when star pianist Elisabeth Leonskaja gives piano recitals with the young Upper Austrian Martin Nöbauer on May 26th under the motto “Butterfly and Devil Dances”.

Ticket sales started on Tuesday – all information is available at brucknerhaus.at
