Three Argentine films will compete at the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival

This edition of the festival, chaired by Edward James Olmos, will have as its opening film “Flamin’ Hot”, by actress and director Eva Longoria.

The Argentine movies “Manuela”of Clara Cullen; “Coal”of Caroline Markowicz; and “Chronicles of a Wandering Saint”of Tomas Gomez Bustillo, are part of the 18 titles that will compete in the Official Section of the 22nd. edition of Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival (LALIFF)which will take place in that American city between May 31 and June 4.

“Manuela”Clara Cullen’s first film, which already won the Best Latino Film award at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, deals with the relationship between a nanny and a 2-year-old girl whom she cares for in the city of Los Angeles in the face of an absent mother.

The other national title in competition is “Coal”the first feature film by Carolina Markowicz, which tells a story set in the Brazilian rural landscape, where a family is offered to eliminate the patriarch in order to accommodate an Argentine drug lord who needs to hide in that secluded place.

Finally, national participation in the LALIFF 2023 is completed with “Chronicles of a Wandering Saint”also a debut, where the director Tomás Gómez Bustillo tells of a particular competition between different women about their Catholic faith in a small town, until one of them, Rita, discovers that staging a miracle could be her ticket to sainthood.
