The 53-year-old tenor follows Bernd Loebe on September 1st, after the 2024 summer season. The audience’s favorite prevailed against 42 other applications. This was announced by those responsible for Erl around President Hans Peter Haselsteiner on Friday in Vienna.
According to the jury, Kaufmann, who has been the outstanding tenor on the opera stages of the world for many years, prevailed against the competition with enthusiasm and his concept. The committee included Haselsteiner State Opera director Bogdan Roščić, Volksopern director Lotte de Beer and the head of the culture department in the state of Carinthia, Brigitte Winkler-Komar.
