Cuba Gooding Jr. avoided a rape trial after reaching an agreement with his plaintiff

The trial of the Oscar-winning actor for his role in “Jerry Maguire” began today.

Cuba Gooding Jr. and her plaintiff for a rape case reached an agreement the same day the trial was to begin, as confirmed by various US portals.

The two parties filed the court document on the settlement, when jury selection was scheduled to begin.

Gooding Jr. had been charged with forcible rape in civil court, and the woman (whose identity was not released) was seeking $6 million in damages.. The judge previously ruled that the woman needed to reveal her legal name before going to trial. However, the 12:00 Monday deadline set by the judge came and went with no change to the filing, including the woman’s name.

The court had allowed a trio of other women to testify at Gooding’s trial assaulting or attempting to assault them.

One of the women who would have taken the stand was Kelsey Herbert. Last year, Gooding pleaded guilty to a non-criminal harassment violation in the case Harbert filed against him in 2019. In that matter, Gooding was accused of forcibly groping the plaintiff at a New York nightclub in the summer of that year. As part of his plea to a lesser charge, Gooding received no jail time or a criminal record in the Harbert case.

In addition to the settlement of this forcible contact case, Gooding has also been a defendant in a lawsuit for raping a woman in New York City in 2013.
