The creator of Black Mirror, Charlie Brookerrevealed to Empire magazine that he was asked for an artificial intelligence chatbot known as ChatGPT to write an episode of his beloved anthology series. The final results were “bullshit”, according to Brooker.
“I’ve been playing around with ChatGPT a bit,” Brooker said. “The first thing I did was write ‘generate Black Mirror episode’ and something comes up that, At first glance, it seems plausible, but at second glance, it’s bullshit.. Because all you do is look up all the ‘Black Mirror’ episode synopses and shuffle them together.”
Brooker added: “If you dig a little deeper, you say: ‘Oh, there’s actually no real original thought here’. Is [el impresionista de la década de 1970] Mike Yarwood: there is a topical reference”.
While the ChatGPT-penned episode was unusable, it did prove helpful to Brooker in pointing out various “Black Mirror” clichés.
“I knew that I had written a lot of episodes where someone says, ‘Oh, I was inside a computer the whole time!’” Brooker said. “So I thought, ‘I’m going to dismiss any sense of what I think is a ‘Black Mirror’ episode.’ There’s no point in having an anthology show if you can’t break your own rules.”
