Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II (81) and her son Crown Prince Frederik (53) continued their state visit with numerous other appointments in Berlin on Thursday.
After the opening of the Danish trade conference, the monarch visited the Pierre Boulez Saal designed by the American star architect Frank Gehry. In the meantime, Crown Prince Frederik took part in various program items at the conference.
Queen Margrethe is known for her interest in art and literature. The 81-year-old, dressed in a dark red and aubergine-colored costume, attentively followed a short concert by four students from the Barenboim Said Academy, which brings together music students from the Arab world and Israel. Its centerpiece is the Pierre Boulez Saal, which opened in 2017. The Konzerthaus intends to work more closely with Danish composers over the next four years. For this purpose, a cooperation with the Danish Art Foundation has been concluded, it said.
For the Queen, among other things, the unveiling of a memorial plaque for the Danish writer Herman Bang and a visit to the Literaturhaus in the presence of Berlin’s Senator for Culture Klaus Lederer (left) were on the agenda. In the early afternoon, the Queen wanted to visit the Documentation Center on Flight, Expulsion, Reconciliation with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
The royal visit to Berlin lasts until Friday. Then Queen Margrethe will travel to Munich alone.
