People: Dolly Parton didn’t have time for tea with Princess Kate

Drinking tea with Princess Kate: For Dolly Parton, who was on a promotional tour for her new album in London, this royal invitation was not a priority.

According to her own words, country icon Dolly Parton (77) had to turn down an invitation to tea for Princess Kate (41). During previous visits to London, she has occasionally had time for sightseeing, the ‘Jolene’ singer told BBC Radio 2. “But this time, my God, I was even invited to tea at Kate’s. And I felt so bad, I couldn’t even go.”

Parton, who is releasing her album “Rockstar” with covers of legendary rock songs this year, found the invitation “very sweet and lovely” and is looking forward to accepting Kate’s invitation one day. She jokingly added, “She didn’t want to promote my rock album, so I had to say ‘no’.” It would not have been Parton’s first contact with the royals: in 1977 she was one of the guests at the Silver Jubilee for Queen Elizabeth II, who died last year.

The musician sang a large part of the cover versions for “Rockstar” together with the original artists. For example, she got the two surviving Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, to record a new version of “Let It Be” with her. Elton John won her for the duet “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” and she sang “Every Breath You Take” with Sting. Altogether there are 21 rock covers and nine new songs on the album, which is due to be released on November 17th.
