The film is based on the French graphic novel series by Alexis Nolent and was adapted by the screenwriter of The fight Club Fincher’s, Andrew Kevin Walker. Tilda Swinton, Arliss Howard and Sophie Charlotte they star alongside Fassbender and Parnell.


Paramount Pictures acquired the rights to The Killer in 2007 and announced that Fincher would direct. In 2007, Nolent, who writes under the pen name Matz, discussed his graphic novel with Newsarama. “A hitman is a figure that allows you to address these issues without apologizing or judging,” he said. “And he therefore he allows us to tell a story that is based as much on his state of mind as it is on his actions.”
Fassbender, who plays the anonymous assassin, has been absent from the screen of late after taking up racing in 2017. He last appeared in the 2019 film X Men: Dark Phoenix as Erik Lehnsherr opposite Sophie Turner and James McAvoy. Charles Parnell starred in Top Gun: Maverick in 2022 and Bill Hader’s “Barry” TV series.

The Assassin will be released in select theaters on October 28. The film will stream on Netflix starting November 10. The film marks the director’s last outing with Netflix after being executive producer of series like house of cards and mindhunter and directing the feature film Mankamong other projects.
