The Royal Mail dedicates stamps with her likeness to Shirley Bassey. The 86-year-old is “humble and extremely proud”.
The British singer Dame Shirley Bassey (86) is honored with her own series of stamps. The 12 stamps featured “some of her captivating performances throughout her illustrious 70-year career” as well as “a more informal side” with black-and-white images captured during shoots and rehearsals, writes Britain’s Royal Mail.
The brands commemorate Bassey’s performances at the Rugby World Cup in 1999 and at the 2013 Oscars, where she performed the James Bond theme song “Goldfinger”.
The Welsh-born singer, who became one of the most successful British artists with hits like “As I Love You” (1959) and sang a total of three James Bond theme tunes, described herself on Instagram as enthusiastic about the honor: “After 70 years in the Showbiz still has moments like this that make me humble and immensely proud.” The new series of stamps will be available from September 21st. Before Bassey, artists like Elton John and David Bowie had been celebrated with their own stamps.
