Pizza mode, grill function, hot air – that’s what the symbols on the oven mean.
There are numerous symbols on the control panel of modern ovens, but do you know what they mean?
Here are the most common oven symbols and their functions.
One symbol is self-explanatory: the lamp. Turn the dial to the lamp and the oven light will turn on. The heating functions remain off.
A single line at the top means only top heat.
The line below: bottom heat.
One line at the top and one line at the bottom: top and bottom heat
The fan in the circle is hot air
This symbol is not so self-explanatory: A line at the bottom and a fan in a circle: This is the “pizza mode”. This setting is ideal for pizza. The bottom heat ensures a crispy base, the hot air function ensures that the pizza is baked well.
Fan without circuit is: circulating air
A jagged line at the top is the oven’s grill function; the grill is hotter than the normal top heat.
The fan and the jagged line at the top: Is the recirculation function with grill
Incidentally, hot air and recirculated air are not the same thing.
For hot air, an additional heating element is switched on directly behind the fan so that the hot air is optimally distributed inside the oven.
Circulating air simply distributes the heat emanating from the upper and lower heating elements.
Energy saving tip: Hot air and hot air make better use of the available heat, which is why the same baking results can be achieved at lower temperatures.
