Prince Harry traveled to Düsseldorf without his family for the opening of the games last weekend. His wife, Duchess Meghan, has now followed him.
Hand in hand, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan attended a competition at the Invictus Games for disabled soldiers in Düsseldorf. The wheelchair basketball match between Ukraine and Australia was on the program on Wednesday morning.
The couple sat down between fans of both teams and enjoyed the game, which the Ukrainians won 8 to 6. Australian fans took the opportunity to take a souvenir photo with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Prince Harry, who was an officer in the British Army in Afghanistan, founded the Invictus Games after encounters with seriously injured people. The son of King Charles III. and Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD), who also traveled there, spoke to the participants of the sports festival and the numerous spectators on Saturday evening in Düsseldorf during the opening event. Meghan arrived on Tuesday and was already attending an evening appointment. Harry turns 39 during the sports festival on Friday.
The Invictus Games will end on Saturday with a closing event at which Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is also expected. More than 500 participants from 21 countries compete in one or more of the ten disciplines. In addition, more than 1,000 family members and carers traveled to the week-long sports festival. It is taking place for the first time in Germany.
