Rereading: Mafalda tells the story of the iconic cartoon Cinchona and its sources of inspiration, and reveals unknown facts of its origin. In addition, he revisits his most memorable strips through testimonies from renowned cartoonists such as Maitena, Liniers, Montt, Tute, Rep, Kemchs and Raquel Riba Rossi. With archival material, renowned artists and personalities of Latin American culture who confess themselves fans of Mafalda such as Darío Barassi, Agustín “Soy Rada” Aristarán, Mariana Fabbiani, Consuelo Duval, Paty Cantú, Santiago Segura, Gabriela Sabatini, Manuel Ginóbiliamong others, interviews with historians, editors, friends and family of Quino, the series proposes a fresh look at an author ahead of his time and his comic strip that was part of everyone’s life and became a classic.
The four 30-minute episodes that make up the series trace Mafalda’s steps, from Buenos Aires, through Milan, Paris, Madrid and Mexico City. In the process, the first editions of the comic are revealed, as well as its translations into dozens of languages, its color versions and its animations. The series also seeks out stories from editors and people close to Quino who give an account of how the strip expanded and how its creator established himself as an artist, while references from the academic world contribute their vision about how and why Mafalda is a phenomenon that challenges readers from all over the world.
Rereading: Mafaldanominated for best documentary in the sixth edition of the Canneseries Festival, which was held between April 14 and 19, 2023, will have a preview on September 24 on the channel National Geographic at 8:00 p.m. in Argentina, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, and at 10:00 p.m. in Chile. Then, premiere episodes will air on Sundays. Starting September 27, it will be available with all its episodes on Disney+ and Star+.
