The traditional costume parade is the highlight of the first Oktoberfest weekend. Almost 10,000 people march in traditional costumes through Munich’s old town to Theresienwiese. The most beautiful pictures.
It is an integral part of the annual Oktoberfest: Traditionally, on the first Sunday of the Oktoberfest, thousands in traditional costume march from Munich’s Maximilianstrasse to Theresienwiese. This year there were around 9,500 participants who walked through the old town in Munich from 10 a.m. There was a wide variety of costumes to see: from the classic traditional jacket and dirndl to brass bands and men in knight’s armor, everything was there.
The Munich Moriscan dancers caused a particular stir. The dance group was reminiscent of a late medieval figure collection by the sculptor Erasmus Grasser (around 1450-1518), who delivered a highlight of southern German carving with the work of the same name. The Moriska was originally a Moorish dance that was performed with leaps in the air.
