The fourth part of the action saga hit theaters this year and had a great run in theaters around the world.
The producer of John Wick, Basil Iwanyktold the Collider portal that Keanu Reeves begged the team behind the long-running action franchise to kill him off at the end of John Wick 4. It was normal for Reeves, who is so physically exhausted after filming each installment of John Wick It’s hard to come back for more. In this case, the producers once again didn’t fully listen to their star.
“After the second, third and fourth movie, making these movies is very exhausting and destroys Keanu, physically and emotionally,” Iwanyk said. “In the end, he always says, ‘I can’t do this again,’ and we agree with him. The guy is just a shell of himself because he just goes out there and tries. He said: ‘I definitely want to be killed at the end of this movie.‘”.
“We thought, ‘You know, we’ll leave a little 10% opening.'”Iwanyk joked.
John Wick 4 ended with John’s presumed death after competing in a duel to free himself from the High Table. John is shot in the third round of the duel and apparently dies on the steps of the Sacré Coeur Basilica while he has a vision of his late wife, Helen. The film then cuts to a final scene in which Winston (Ian McShane) and Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne) visit John’s tombstone.
The alternate ending of John Wick 4
In an interview with Empire magazine earlier this year, director Chad Stahelski revealed for the first time that it was filmed and tested a more concrete ending to the action. In this version of the film, there was no doubt that John Wick survived the events of the duel.
“We had a different ending,” Stahelski said. “You actually saw John Wick at the end of the movie. So it was very clear that he was still alive. The audiences we tested with absolutely preferred the ambiguous ending.”
John Wick 4’s ambiguous ending has led many to wonder if Reeves will return for a fifth film. A John Wick 5 now seems more of a possibility given that John’s survival at the end of the fourth seems questionable.
“I don’t know, I guess I’ll just have to lean on ‘never say never,'” Reeves told Entertainment Weekly after the release of “Chapter 4” about making another sequel. “I mean, I wouldn’t make a ‘John Wick’ movie without [el director] Chad Stahelski. We’d have to see what it looks like. To me, it’s really right that John Wick finds peace.”.
