Following media reports of rape allegations against British actor and comedian Russell Brand, London police have received numerous allegations of sexual offenses by the 48-year-old. In recent days there have been “several allegations of sexual offenses” in London and elsewhere in the United Kingdom, police said on Monday. The allegations are not current cases and there have been no arrests.
Russell Brand: Series of abuse allegations between 2006 and 2013
The British newspapers “Times” and “Sunday Times” and the television station Channel 4 reported allegations of sexual violence by Brand almost ten days ago after joint research. Four women accuse the now 48-year-old of raping, abusing or exploiting them between 2006 and 2013. A short time later, a complaint of sexual assault was received by the London police. Another woman later came forward and accused Brand of exposing herself in front of her.
On Monday, police again urged people who “believe they may have been the victim of a sexual offense” to contact authorities, “no matter how long ago it was.” The ex-husband of US pop singer Katy Perry denies the allegations. For a while he had frequently changed partners, but the sex was always “consensual”.
