Cathy Hummels recently explained in a post on Instagram that she no longer wanted to show her five-year-old son Ludwig on social networks. “Ludwig may no longer be clearly visible when it comes to my and dad’s Instagram channel in the future. He may not always have to take photos like dad and mom do. His decision, which will of course be respected,” wrote the 35-year-old. In a new Instagram posting, Hummels now wants to explain this decision in more detail, but the post is met with incomprehension by many of her followers.
Hummels begins her comment by noticing “how difficult and stressful social media can be.” “I’m an adult and notice how this feeling of performing regularly influences me and often leads me to give in to the urge to share beautiful moments. I’ve always been extroverted, I want to take other people with me and motivate them. (…) Just because I like to present “It doesn’t mean that my son has the same hobby,” she continues.
She explains again that her son Ludwig will no longer be seen with his face on Instagram in the future and comes to the conclusion: “Children don’t belong on social media and we as parents have responsibility for them. We have to protect our children and Don’t put yourself on display in front of ‘strangers’ people.”

Many people cannot understand that it took her five years to realize that her son should not be portrayed on social networks. Some followers accuse the moderator of using the image to gain attention at the expense of her son – even though she writes about wanting to keep him out of social networks. Above all, Hummels’ sentence: “How would we feel if intimate moments from our childhood could be found online today?” offends many people. “If you have that opinion, then why such a private photo? He’s sucking on your breast – that’s very intimate. Your son will find that on the Internet forever,” comments one user.
