Dream Theater announced the return of the founding member Mike Portnoymore than a decade after he left the formation.
The news of their return to the progressive band was shared by the band today (October 25) with a surprise update on X (ex Twitter). “We are delighted to announce the return of drummer @MikePortnoy to Dream Theater”He said.
In the post, the band also confirmed that the new lineup is now ready to begin work on a new studio album, which will be their first with the drummer since 2009’s “Black Clouds & Silver Linings.”
Portnoy’s return also marks the restoration of the classic 1999/2000 line-up, which also included the singer James LaBriethe guitarist John Petruccithe bassist John Myung and the keyboard player Jordan Rudess.
